ALLEGRINI Valpolicella 2010 75cl Bottle

The 2009 Valpolicella is juicy and soft, with lively cherry and berry fruit characters on the palate and a fresh, lifted finish. The south east facing vineyards are located in the hills of the Valpolicella Classico region at 150 250 metres above sea level. The soil there is very varied but mostly chalky, of volcanic origin. The older vineyards are trained using the pergola Trentina system, planted with about 3000 vines per hectare, whereas the newer ones use the single Guyot system with 5000 plants per hectare. The vines are 28 years old on average. Yields were around 72hlHa. As in Soave, the growing season started well and continued into the hot summer. Just the right amount of rain fell in early July, as veraison started, giving the vines some relief. More rain in mid September was less welcome but stopped in time for the grapes destined for drying which are picked earlier. The harvest in Classico finished for Allegrini on 20 October. Franco Allegrini is pleased with the wines, saying 39it is a good if not great year. The wines have lovely weight but lack a bit of elegance.39 Grape varieties 65% Corvina, 30% Rondinella, 5% Molinara.
